In the late 1800s, the port of Pensacola became a flourishing hub of trade and commerce. The East Hill area became one of the desired locations for successful business owners and professionals to live. The high ground offered their homes protection from storms, yet it was close to downtown and Pensacola's busy port. Houses of the high-quality Artist and Craftsman construction, and those exhibiting Spanish architectural influence, from charming cottages to grand estates, dotted its shady tree-lined streets.
During the mid-1900s the residents of East Hill began to move to new developments and tract homes that were being built by the hundreds.
Our downtown and waterfront communities offer diversity of style and aesthetic. One can find everything from Craftsman and Bungalow East Hill homes to Mid-century ranch and Florida traditional, Victorian and Tudor to seaside and modern homes. There are single family homes, some offering guest suites, perfect for those out of town guests that you will have by living in FL. Pensacola has townhomes and condos, perfect for those looking for lower maintenance or a lock and go place.
There are properties both old and new. Waterfront properties range from Gulf front beach homes to high rise condos, we also have sound front, bay front, and bayou homes if you are looking for water to keep a boat. In our downtown Pensacola and beach areas, prices range from $200,000 to $1 million plus. There is something for everyone in Pensacola and the surrounding area, it is just a matter of finding the right fit.
As times and fashions changed, and the population of Pensacola grew, many people once again began to appreciate the individual style and character of the older well-built homes.
Today we find a wonderful blend of people living in East Hill. It encompasses a diverse multicultural community of professionals, artists, and tradesmen. People of all ages and walks of life contribute to the eclectic structure of this neighborhood.
Whether you are moving to the area, or have not been to East Hill in years, it is worth a visit. Stop by Portabello Market (formally J's Pastry Shop) for an afternoon sandwich or a treat for dessert. Walk up to the Tacos Mexicanos food truck on 12th Ave., it never disappoints. Grab a cold one or a slice of pie at Ozone in the Old Sacred Heart building, or Californian Mexican at the Cactus Flower, these places have been around for years. The dogs always love a walk around Bayview Park or a dip at the dog park. Whether you ride, walk or run (or just like to hang out) you will find East Hill to be a friendly neighborhood to congregate and meet friends.
East Hill's numerous neighborhood parks invite you to a welcoming community, a remembrance of old Florida, and a place to feel at home.
